'dragon age origins' underrated or just right?
« on: Nov 14, 2009; 08:04 PM »
OK, so my dad has just just got the game 'Dragon Age origins' game a couple days ago and while he was playing it, i came up behind him, saw the game, grabbed a chair and sat and watch him get killed (he refuses to start on the 'easy' setting and lost) but it was like watching a movie, and it got me thinking that the game IS the best of it's time, and my dads computer has a graphics card thats just barely better then mine. as I watch i got to think about why this game didn't get a 10 out of 10, or 5 out of 5 on all reviews, it it really impossible for a game to get a perfect score?
My question to all of you is 'What do you think about this new game?'

of course games can get 10/10 but as soon as 1 person rates it lower (personal taste) its screwed

Dont you hate it? You have 100% accurancy in a fps (10 of 10) and 1 lousy shot screws it? You can NEVER EVER GET UP AGAIN to 100% :) so its pretty much the same there.

Also you must admit: theres always a bigger fish! As soon as you got THE GAME of the decade, anotherone comes along and tips it over.

We all know that the gaming industry isnt working on their 100%. I mean they are working 100% efficient, but not 100% towards the gamers, more 100% into their pocket :)

We all know what COULD be done, thats why we never rate a game at max anymore.
In the past that was different, all new games astoned us, what was able to be done. But today nothing really freaks us out anymore.

The real end of the world would prolly get a 9/10 rating ..."could have been more spectacular and a bit longer, but else i liked it"...

and if i now fell for market research question... im too tired so screw the game!!!! :)

Didnt played it yet  but one of my friend does it since its out, looks pretty good but its not my style (i cant stand the slow playstyle games).

As for the scores, presonally i dont give a "u know" about sites scoring games.
No matter how those sites say "we are passive,we doesnt prefer this and that",sure they do,at the end it comes down to personal preference, they wont 10/10 a game just because most of the ppls like it.
Before when i had no internet (yup that wasnt today^^),i've used to buy a pc magazine every month for years and i havent seen a simple 100%,most was 97-98 maybe.

i read that it is a multi-player game, and can't be completed solo.  So, if u like multi-player, then it's good, but if u like single player, then it's bad.  Bioware is a very good company and i like there games.  But i am more of a single player person myself.

Where did you read that? There's no multiplayer in Dragon Age. It's an oldschool cRPG. IMO the best cRPG released in last 2 years.

Flash is right.
It is single-player ONLY.
There is NO multiplayer capability, so if you can't finish it by yourself, the game is seriously flawed.

I am dying to play this game. I have wanted to since it was announced. Unfortunately I am a person of very limited funds at the moment :/ ... As far as I've seen the gameplay is amazing and the visuals stunning. I would kill for a copy of this game :P

Sinnce it's not multi-player I won't play it. One of the biggest appeals is that it looked almost like Bulder's Gate multi-player with kickass graphics... now I have to worry about npc's too? Yay...

And here's one thing to remember about gaming sites and magazines, how much MONEY goes in to each review? Not money spent on writers or time playing the game, or how much money went in to the rating it got. I've seen some shitty games with high ratings, and some AMAZING GAMES!(HG:L)get not so great reviews. Don't trust reviews that only give opinoin(I loved the graphics, I hated the graphics, I loved hte game, I would kill for htis game) look at hte pros/cons. GI magazine atleast will list aspects of the game. Look at the aspects, not score or opinions and you'll see what you want.

Lirrink I advise you to read professional game's review and not base your oppinions on forum responses of people who didn't even play the game.

If your point was that enjoyable games might not get high reviews -- I'd readily agree with you.  Much like movie review scores might not match the entertainment level I derive from a movie.

If your point was that HG:L got unfairly low scores....well, I'd have to disagree.
In truth, HG:L deserved to get spanked in the reviews upon its release.
Fortunately, the game still had enough entertainment value for many of us to overlook its flaws -- some of which were still present when the plug got pulled on the MP server.

yep most of the points stated in the reviews where true

i always loved when the total failure in SOUND dragged down the whole percentage of the game hehehe

I hope you wont consider me one of those under raters, but i Just started the game, and ill give it 8.5 or 9 out of 10, I have to say, i was expecting a dungeon siege 2 or better a followed up dungeon siege 3, with the almost same gameplay, the game graphics are pretty cool, though i dont have a high system i can feel that, also blood is a cool feature that is added in this game, but i feel the lack of something, i dont know what, it looks to me like another neverwinter night, and i never liked that game, Dragon age has pretty cool story system, and a pretty cool skills, I like games that ur skills are NOT random and you dont have to pick them up in the way and stores, i prefer it like Hellgate, dungeon siege and Dragon age, where you choose them and know your path, like combat mage or blood assassin, its surely going to be a very good game, and very good mods are going to be build on this mod, ill be waiting for that. generally I have positive reviews on it, the reason i dont give 10 is because it wasnt what i thought it would be after one year of constant advertisement from several sites and previews . . . i was waiting for something godlike but i guess this will do for the time being, lets hope Diablo 3 ends up in a better road.

I give it an 8/10
The story is cool, and I especially like the voice acting, but the combat system doesn't work for me.
Sure, it's all tactical and technical and if you study and learn it you'll blaze through the game on hard... until the game starts surprise-spawning enemies in tiny, cramped rooms and all your planning goes to shit. I can honestly say I had more trouble with massive waves of mooks than with the big bosses.
PS: Any mage related gear looks gay. And I don't mean that in a derogatory way. I mean like camp gay, frilly dress with pretty embroidery kinda gay, and don't get me started on the Pope hats.......
That kinda makes Wow's "HUEG" epic shoulderpads acceptable..

EDIT: Another mage-related quirk is that it's ridiculously  easy to learn massive earth-shattering spells, that kill every living thing on the map, but you'll never find a decent opportunity to use them since a majority of the game is spent in small, claustrophobic dungeons, and the game employs a friendly-fire system that will make it so you kill your party 9 times out of ten.
