Hello,

Since I finally got fed up with the 1 FPS bug, I spent the last few days reverse engineering the game to try to fix it. While I haven't found the root cause of the issue, I have found one way to fix it, with a few side effects.

It's very easy to verify that it works. Just start the game with it attached, go to some arbitrary Tokyo area, get an FPS drop, and then type 'patch-long-ray-vm' in the console window. It will instantly resolve the FPS drop.

Just to be clear: 'patch-long-ray-vm' is used to toggle the effect on, same command again will toggle off? I cant wait to give this a try later today. Thank you very much for putting your time and effort into this.

Yep, that's right. You can toggle the patch at any point, even in the middle of gameplay (which you have to do for Ash and Oculis, for example).

Hi, first,  thanks for your effort :)
I play on AMD processor so I probably do not experience the "real" FPS bug. However, I always have severe FPS drop at the end of Upper Edo castle,  where the unique mad oni crusher is.  Unfortunately, it occured with your augmentrex on too. So I guess, it is different issue?
I started the game from the augmentrex, log looked okay, so I guess it was active at that time or is it necessary to toggle it on with the command?

You have to toggle the fix on with the 'patch-long-ray-vm' command. It's not on by default.

no FPS drop on way to Natan, no FPS drop due to moth spawns and killing of moths swarms

Having various versions of the game is really helpful when reverse engineering, and unfortunately the drive I had the game from back when I still played has long since died.

have only steam Version and DVD Version. have test between both versions the most Settings cames later in the game from corean Version. i see that one or two skills drigger the 1 fps bug. with lower Settings it Comes not so often. i think the dx9 Version is a Little bit broken with it Maybe wrong dll´s too

or Maybe ill be wrong with that

Hey! had been really annoyed at this bug, so I checked out the tool! nicely done!

some notes from my experience / suggestion

I also downloaded the source, since the compiled version would not work..

1: I have 3 HDD's with steam games, this will bork things (dirty workaround is dirty... folder lookup breaks)
2: I removed the required admin rights, everything seems to continue working
3: would be interesting to try and have a hotkey that just toggles the rays off and on, then just hit it when lag starts
4: compiling the code in debug seems to have created some local VS sandbox mode that my pc was unhappy about, a release compile may fix this if other users face it


I will try and find free time to look at fixing these, ping me if you want some help :)

I know there is currently a bug with the game location detection logic when non-standard library paths are used. If you could give me a list of your Steam library folders including which manifest files are present in them, I could try to fix that.

It may very well work without administrator privileges. I just couldn't be bothered to verify that since I have almost all aspects of UAC disabled on my system.

Hotkeys are definitely something I'd like to do. Would probably take the form of a command that would install a global key hook for any given key (plus modifiers) to run a given command. Dunno when I'll get around to that, though.

Not sure what the VS sandbox thing you mentioned is. Never heard of anything like that. ???

My HGL steam game is stored on another drive so i had to modify the "Augmentrex.exe.config"

Update:
I think this patch affects flying and jumping mobs too.
Blood seraphim (flying mobs) in Aldgate for Broken quests line can fly through obstacles and "never fly back to map" hence they're missing.
I saw ravagers jump and end as they are swimming on the ground then disappear.

Just run Augmentrex? Two console windows will pop up, one of which is the command interpreter.

Hello all !

I am a long time fan of the original game.

It seems the plugin to Augmentrex does not work, on my system, with version 2.1.0.4 of the Steam flavor of the game. (I now know it was made for version 2.1.0.4 so it should work.)

I don't know the reason why it does not work for me and would appreciate help in making it work for me.

Well, I mean I get the same error message that Dorogochi mentioned in his December 10, 2019 post here.

I'm citing it :

"When trying commands ill get "No matches. Was the game updated?" im on 2.1.0.4 ... this is outdated mod or ?"

The error message I receive is exactly : "Searching for function... No matches. Was the game updated?".

It seems something is wrong. I just realized that Augmentrex wass released for version 2.1.0.4 of the Steam flavor of the game.  Maybe I am mistaken on what the situation is ; for instance, maybe I get the error message for an other reason. By the way, I run 64 bit Windows 10 (1909) : could this be a problem ? Also I read that "Augmentrex requires .NET Framework 4.7.2 to run." I just tried to install it and the installer said .NET Framework 4.7.2 (or a more recent version of it) was already installed (and so did not re-install it).

Also, I have modified (shortly after its installation)  the Augmentrex.exe.config file at the end and the commands to execute at launch now read :

                 key --add -s F1 patch-long-ray-vm" />

Maybe there are two errors there because the error message I mentioned above appears twice. Then it would be about the 2 patches (patch-cc-agent and patch-cc-agent) because adding the shorcut key was confirmed by the message "Added key binding: Shift+F1 = patch-long-ray-vm".

While in game, pressing Shift+F1 tries to execute patch-long-ray-vm but results in the same error message.

I have rewritten my own previous post in hope it would be clearer.

I admire all the persons who try to solve or reduce the problems with the Steam flavor of the game.

The game has not been updated on Steam for over 2 years (https://steamdb.info/app/939520/depots/), so that isn't the issue.

The message you're getting is because Augmentrex can't find the code it needs to patch in memory. It's kinda hard for me to say why that might be happening without being able to work directly on a machine that exhibits the problem; I can't reproduce the problem on my own machine.

My best guess would be that some Windows security feature or anti-malware software is unnecessarily interfering. You'll have to experiment a bit on your own to see if that's the case.

Thanks for replying so fast. (I was editing my post during that time...)

I'll look at my antivirus logs, try whitelisting the Augmentrex folder for the antivirus, and try deactivating some Windows own security features to see if I can find the culprit.

I'll keep you posted... but it may take a few days.

Hello again !

It took less time that I thought.

1) There was nothing about Augmentrex nor Hellgate London in my antivirus logs. My antivirus is 360 Total Security.

2) I added the folder (F:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Augmentrex-2.0.0) containing Augmentrex and its files in the antivirus white list. The problem persists. This setting is now permanent.

3) I deactivated the antivirus using its turn-on/turn-off button but the problem persists. However for the next tests, the antivirus is turned ON.

4) Core isolation (using virtualization) was already deactivated on my machine before using Augmentrex because core isolation interfered with some other trusted application I use. It stays that way.

5) Secure boot was already activated on my machine before using Augmentrex. I have not tested deactivating it but I think it has nothing to do with the problem Augmentrex has.

6) The Windows defense against threats feature (accessible through Windows settings menus) contains several settings ; I have turned them all OFF, restarted Windows, tried Augmentrex but the problem persists. After the test, I turned them all ON (except one which is by default set to OFF) and restarted Windows.

Is there something else I could change for a testing ?  I could also give you remote access to my machine if required for faster checks and testing process. However you have to know that my Windows speaks French and it might be a problem (or not)... Living in the province of Quebec (Canada) I use a US-like keyboard (not the French one from France).

I hope French or English has nothing to do with my problem with Augmentrex... ??

I tried Augmentrex for the first time today and i have exactly the same Error.
I'm not using any Antivirus except Windows Security.
I also whitelisted the Augmentrex folder.
Maybe something broke through windows updates?

I've been able to play Steam's version of Hellgate London for a few days now without any issues.
Also, I've written a small guide on Steam to show people how to install and use Augmentrex, helping those who didn't knew about this great patch to run Hellgate.

Hello Zor! I'm using augmentrex to a great success, it saved me from 95% of the 1fps issues (I still get it sometimes, but very rarely) and made the Steam version of the game actually enjoyable, thank you! :D

Recently however, all of a sudden, my progress doesn't get saved when I quit the game. Shorter progresses get saved, but after playing for like 10 minutes or so, something locks in and saving the game afterwards will revert my character to where I started. And I noticed these errors popping up in the process window after a failed saving happened:

Do you have an idea on what they mean? Is it something fixable? They weren't there before. I also tried running the game without augmentrex, the issue persists, the problem is clearly with the base game, and very likely my savegame file.

#Update: it turns out that the above error messages happening are unrelated to the savegame file becoming unable to get overwritten. And the reason was that I had too many items in my stash (special thanks to Immortal2563). All good now!

I ran all 4 parts of the stonehange and after reloading the game nothing saved, so not only you have a problem. Download any other character from the forum and check if he saves his status.

Lucky you, that you don't need it. I tried many-many optimizations, to no avail. Do you have a non-intel CPU? AMD presumably?

what are your pc specs?
