Remove Starting Skill
« on: Aug 25, 2009; 03:46 PM »
Well i know i sound crazy but i was thinking of removing the first skill that is automatically one point on it when start the game, in case of evoker would be spectral bolt, summoner is fire elemental and so on . . . some of those skill i really dont want to invest at all.

It would be much better if we would start with no initial skills at all and then when entering the Holborn station after speaking with murmur you get one extra skill there, which you can invest on what ever skill tree you want, in case of the templar you wont feel the difference coz sword of reckoning is prerequisite for other skill trees, but in cabalist, you dont want a fire elemental or you dont want anything in spectral tree, and i dont think we die from zombies that never attack, those skills are not essential, or if it is even that essential let the character to start with a bonus unspent skill point.

I know your gonna tell me that im greedy, and that one skill point wont change anything, but my ideology is that if i don't need it i wont invest on it at all. my build are mostly builds that cover two trees only. and i basically it would be easy to know of few things a lot than a little of everything.

I really like the idea of not having the first skill point assigned for me.

My choice would be to start with 1 skill point waiting to be put in which first level skill I want. For example you start your new char and pick what to do with your skill point there and then if you want. Rather than wait for the first station.

Whether this can be done easily for Hellgate or whether thoughts for Revival I have no idea.

I guess this is possible even for SP, if they could increase the max level to 60, i think they can do this too.

I like that idea, never really liked being forced to have a skill I didn't use.

IIRC first skill point is free, and unassigned. Don't worry guys, we are tackling this.

Or just do it D2 style and have the first skill point at level 2, and every class (as opposed to D2's couple) starts with a piece of equipment that gives +1 to a (random?) first-level skill. Somewhat short-lived, sure, but have a floating skill point to start with seems weird.

The only problem with the idea Firvagor, is that people will miss out on a skill point.
Sacred had the skill points set, but with the underworld expansion, you could change an ini setting, so you could assign the first 2 yourself.
And frankly, I wouldn't mind this, I've only used tactical stance(marksman) at first level, then never again.

so this means that the first skill will be unassigned ? that would be cool.
