Title: Put on Your Tin Foil Hats!
Post by: Angel on Dec 10, 2009; 05:04 AM
This is very weird and yet very cool.  Question is..what is it?  A Project Blue Beam test?  Aliens?  A weird natural phenomenon? No one seems to know, yet thousands saw it.

Ahhh, at the time I posted that, the article was different.  It didn't say anything about a possible failed missile.

Well, that was quite lame. Would have been better if dragons and unicorns popped out of it.
But really, its probably just an intergalactic toilet being flushed. Nothing came out of it cause there was a black hole in the end.

FYI, this is from SpaceWeather:
HYPOTHESIS: Evidence is mounting that the phenomenon was caused by a malfunctioning suborbital rocket, possibly a Bulava ICBM launched from a Russian submarine in the White Sea. A Navtex no-fly alert was issued for the White Sea on Dec. 9th, and photographers have recorded what appears to be the initial boost phase of a launch beneath the spiral (see inset). A rocket motor spinning out of control could indeed explain the spiral pattern, as shown in this video of a Trident II missile launched from a US submarine in 2007.

CONFIRMED: The Russian Defense Ministry has confirmed the launch and subsequent failure of a submarine-based missile: BBC Report.

Thanks, Slammer :)  Although, I think it was much more fun not knowing what it was :P

no need, there are plenty of low-yield warheads just down in lower thames.
