Change of Station Posters
« on: Feb 15, 2014; 01:13 AM »
Hi, basic stuff really ... I just want to be able to create a range of posters to appear in the stations, like the Zombie Warning Posters mod.zip file I have been using for ages.

First, what do I need to create this mod?

Second, could someone walk through the basic pathway to create the mod.zip file for me? Any complications or problems I think I can work out as I go, but I just need a little push to start in the right direction :)

Thanks in advance!

posters lies here:
Data/background/_advertisements/
in .DDS format (texture), which can be edited with lots of raster graphics editors like, say, Paint.net.
here's some info on posters' paths.

as about mod packing, it's just zip file with filesystem structure preserved so when it's extraceted into Hellgate London folder, everything's get placed into appropriate places. looks at this mod as an example
in case of panic break the glass, exit through the window.

It's a little bit more complicated than that. The game prefers to use files in the .dat/.idx files unless reference to them has been removed from the .idx files. Or the files are overridden by files(in .dat/.idx files) with a newer time/date stamp.

For a quick and dirty method for the posters, grab reanimator.r1135.
Extract it wherever. I use the root Hellgate london directory. Hellgate London\Reanimator.r1135
Within that create your folder structure:
data\background\_advertisements\
Place your finished posters in there.
Run Hellpack.
Copy the resulting .dat/.idx files into your Hellgate London\Data folder.
Run the game and look at your posters.

A HUGE thanks guys - I will try the Reanimator way first I think, as it seems the right way to pack the archive/mod file, dirty as it may be :)

If all fails, though Violet, I will certainly follow the pathway you have laid out too.

Again, huge thanks for the replies.

An update -

I used a mix of both your methods - edited the files with Paint.Net - all good!

Then used Hellpack to create the .dat/.idx files and then simply copied the entire Data folder and sub-folders into the Hellgate folder.

Works perfectly.

Next I'll have a go at making the mod.zip file! :)
