Does anyone remember Vampire Bloodlines?  It too had a cult following and someone started importing assets into unity after Activision continued sweeping the game under the rug for 10 years.  LOL  Naturally the IP holders CCP shut it down only to do jack squat with the property...and then sold it to Paradox.  I wish they could pick Hellgate up from it's new keepers (they'll never own it truly...lol) and do just that - release on steam with reasonable upgrades and develop part too...best Idea I heard in awhile.
CCP did not shut it down. The game was long dead when they got the IP rights to it. CCP had plans for a dark vampire game of their own and needed the rights to include some of it into their own, new game. Unfortunately was their vampire game cancelled.

It is ludicrous to accuse CCP for trying. They tried to, but because they did not want to get ripped apart by stupid media did they decide to cancel their plans and not to risk making a vampire game during a time where vampires suddenly posses diamond skins and walk around in sunlight. Their original plan was to create a dark, cold hardcore PvP MMO, which would have rocked, if it wasn't for the Twilight Saga to pop up and to create completely new expectations of the genre. And instead of changing the game to meet new expectations did they cancel it. The game would have been shredded in the media and by every blogging "vampire expert" for not being like the Twilight Saga, by people who bitch and blame whoever they can find, because they didn't get what they wanted - by people with a mindset not unlike yours. You should applaud them for their wisdom and be thankful for that they have tried.

For those who don't know who CCP are... they are an Icelandic company and the creators of EVE Online, a space simulation and hardcore PvP MMO, which has won countless awards and after more than 12 years still gets over 22,000 players to login every day at a time (and millions of players who don't play every day). Their game EVE Online is so out-standing that it even got an exhibition in the New York Museum of Modern Art.

Many thanks for the digging Michael :)

Now,on the trailer itself...I'm beginning to become rather hostile with these developments in the IP.Essentially, they're still scavenging for whatever scraps of resources they can get out of the Hellgate landscape and wrapping it up into a watered-down,uninspired mess.

I don't follow the VR trend, although I'm not a priori against it.I'm not a huge FPS fan either.Still,to my inexperienced eyes, this looks like material for a very decent VR FPS.
But,I have been an avid Hellgater. And to me,a simplistic Shooter game with generic floating eyeballs and slightly altered Gluttons has no right to bear the Hellgate name just because it happens to share some monster models with it.

I can't grasp their reasoning behind still holding on to the name,if that's their intended direction for the IP.
For one,the "nostalgia" factor (that they themselves mention in the mobile FPS) should be bound to actually create haters out of (what's left of) the old fanbase, not have veterans return and stay for more than a quick playthrough.
That aside, has Hellgate not become notorious enough for them to consider that a genre shift may not be the best option?

I feel I should cut my rant short. It's not like it's going to change anything, really.

I think I know where this is going. I wish they just gave the  IP to someone competent enough to actually do something with it.

According to https://www.pcinvasion.com/hellgate-london-vr-coming, this is still on Hanbitsoft's agenda...

Honestly after looking at the pictures and video, it doesn't look terrible. It looks good in a crazy way, but VR, ugh. I hope they make a non vr version, if they had any sense they would and release hellgate on steam.

has anyone manage to get in touch with them about it?
