Comment and question thread for stories
« on: Aug 19, 2010; 05:40 AM »
In this thread, feel free to comment or question anything pertaining to any of the stories I have written.
I may not answer all questions: I may not know or I may not wish to answer.
However, feel free to ask.

I started part #3 of Story 2 tonight.  Been struggling a little with where to go.  I mentioned before that I know how one story line ends, but the others I simply don't know.  I simply started writing something random and wound up with 2 pages in Word.  I am trying to figure out some sort of sign-posts toward which I can work with the threads.  I don't want to force anything, but I also recognize that some of you are waiting to hear something.

Actually, I know how two of the threads intersect, but that is something of an end-point, or near the end.  Just trying to figure out some mid-points toward which I can move other things.  Sorry for the delay.

I am soliciting input on monster types to include in the story.

Any particular types that should be getting some attention?
Not looking for bosses.

I've barely scratched the surface of monster types, so which ones need to make an appearance?

Unless memory fails me,spectral types didn't get much attention as of yet.

More specifically, perhaps a Tormenter or a pack of Lost Ones would be of some use at this point.I suppose you could even introduce a Vast Phantasm,if the size doen't classify it as "too much" to be just a mob narration-wise.

Other than those, perhaps a higher level necro would draw attention.

Just an update....I got a flash of inspiration for the story.
Don't know how far this will carry things forward (as far as writing momentum), but it certainly "fills in" some of what is going to happen or what will be revealed in Story #2.
Now that I have the inspiration, I need to allow things to percolate just a little bit -- work out chronology within the story, turns of phrase, etc.

I encourage and welcome any comments or questions about the stories, but I do ask that you post them in this thread, please.
Just for the sake of leaving the story threads a little less "cluttered."
Thanks.

Sorry Peet I goofed and left a comment on the other thread so please fell free to delete it, I'll just re-post my comment here.

Damn Peet, I hope you got this all backed up some where. You could have a good book, at least I'm enjoying it.

I write it in Word, so all the parts are saved before I post anything.
Thanks for the encouragement, glad you are still enjoying it.

FYI, the rest of the current story is already plotted out in my head.  As I realized how things would go, I started making notes for myself.
In time, a skeletal outline formed, with the assorted notes pasted into the appropriate chronology.
Now, it is a matter of fleshing it out, providing detail and giving the story some sort of life.  Hopefully it will at least reach a measure of what I have imagined....

For those interested: I have come to imagine the upbringing and training of the knights in a military academy sense -- academic learning and the ability to think are every bit as important as one's physical development and skills.  While it clearly does not have the same regimented structure as a military academy, the academic instruction is not allowed to suffer in the Order.  The sheer technological advancements of the Templar (as depicted in the Odom books) was the basis for this.  My idea is that it is NOT simply a devotion to combat skills.  Certainly, that is of paramount importance to their way of being, but there is little room for automatons or the dull-witted.  To the contrary, mental development is extremely important.  That is why, in my stories, you will be hard pressed to find a knight that is soft in the head, inarticulate or just plain dumb.  Bear in mind, however, that intelligence does not preclude, vanity, ego, temper, selfishness or other less desirable traits that humans might possess.

Hopefully I didn't misrepresent anything and the analogy was not too much of a stretch.

After a 6 month hiatus, I have started writing more of the story.

I expect to post a portion within 48 hours.

Okie dokie.

I have spent a little time in front of the computer in the last week.

I would have completed a section or two, however, I made some realizations about some of the parties involved in the story, so I need to work stuff into the narrative.  I expect to post something in the next few days.

Unrelated to the stories, but thought I'd pass this along....

I have told a few of you about the brain cancer diagnosis I received a few years ago.  21 months is the 50% survival rate.
I was already ahead of the curve last year (5 year survivor), but systems (i.e. liver and kidney function primarily) were beginning to suffer as a result of the treatments and other confounding medical issues.....
I was accepted into an experimental oncology protocol last year.

About 3 weeks ago, I met with the team.  I was informed that the cancer has all but disappeared.  We are ecstatic about the results, but still cautious.
I am still alive, the cancer looks like it might be on its last legs and it has NEVER gone systemic.
Based upon this, I finally elicited a genuine laugh from the lead physician.  I asked him: Does this mean my friends could say, "Hey, that cancer thing?  It's all in your head!!"

Some of you have asked about my health and I am sure that some have been hesitant to ask for fear of broaching a subject that I might be uncomfortable discussing.  To all of you, I appreciate your concern.  Things are looking good.

Glad to see you're alive Peter.  I'd hate to see the Hellgate community lose someone such as yourself.

Kind of an odd coincidence, I had a friend who died back in January from a brain tumor.  He was in his ~49-50th year, but he was still too young (IMO).  It was especially a shame since he had taken on a fairly active role in the fraternity of which I am a member, his career was going very well and he was about to embark upon his second marriage.
